What is the EN AW 6000 Series?
The magnesium-silicon 6000 series is the most common aluminium family for extruded profiles. Mechanical properties can be enhanced with tempers such as T5 and T6.
- Very common in extruded profiles.
- Heat-treatable.
- Suitable for anodising and coating.
- Used in architectural systems, structural profiles and industrial constructions.
| EN AW Code | Typical Application Area |
|---|---|
| EN AW 6005 / 6005A | Medium-high strength; complex extrusions, bus bodies and rail applications. |
| EN AW 6060 | Standard architectural profiles and balcony glazing; excellent anodising quality. |
| EN AW 6061 | One of the world’s most common general-purpose structural alloys. |
| EN AW 6063 | Slightly stronger alternative to 6060; joinery and furniture profiles. |
| EN AW 6082 | Key alloy for cranes, bridges, scaffolding and high-load structures. |
| EN AW 6101 / 6101A | Strengthened busbar alloys designed for electrical conductivity. |
| EN AW 6262 | Lead-containing extruded bars for machining applications. |
Why Proper Alloy Selection Matters
Choosing the correct aluminium alloy directly affects strength, corrosion resistance, weldability, anodising quality, machinability and cost efficiency. Different EN AW designations in the same product form may significantly change product lifetime and service reliability.
